Why doesn't my Blanchard Magnolia tree have flowers or seed pods?

I have a Blanchard Magnolia tree that is eight years old and about ten feet tall. It has never had any flowers or seed pods, why?

    It may be your soil.Magnolia trees need acidity of about 4.5%. I would have your soil tested and amend according to the reading.

    I planted two years ago and one never bloomed till last year. I tought maybe it was male.

    We planted one. And it took 14 years before it bloomed, but since then it blooms every year. Very prolifically.
  • The biggest thing is that the tree has not reached its maturity! A southern magnolia blooms after 10 years and up to 15. If the leaves are light green and not dark green then you will need to worry about soil but if it is growing and looks healthy do not worry- the tree is just young.

    Mine took about 5 years to have one single bloom. The next year more and the next, even more. Take heart!
