What should I put in my antique bowl to decorate for the summer?

I have a 9 inch round dough bowl that I have displayed on some built in shelves in my den. It is an antique and beautiful in a primitive way. I've had some 'fall-looking' filler displayed in it for a long time. I want something more spring/summer. I can't think of a thing to fill it with! The bowl is about 4 in. deep, but I can put crushed newspaper in the bottom to take up extra space.

what about colored silk flowers? Maybe those colored crystals like you get at Michaels and Hobby Lobby? If you don't want to fill the whole bowl, you could put another bowl inside there and tip it upside down.

Like Sue Booker (Madison, OH) I also was going to suggest moss balls. I don't have a "real" dough bowl but something similar & I display the (fake) Japanese fishing glass floats. Other times, I display my large collection of unusual sea shells. If you like the "shell idea", don't use too tiny a shell or it will look insignificant & boring. You could put small ones at the bottom as "filler" (or even sand) but make sure you have a layer of good sized shells on the top. There's also nothing wrong with an empty bowl - it's a beautiful antique & can shine all on its own! 😊

What about wood spools. They come in various shapes and sizes. Some are for yarn, others for thread. Or grape vine balls.

Some artificial ivy cascading down a little and a string of delicate,battery operated fairy lights on a timer would look lovely. I bought the small string of fairy lights at Michaels

when you were describing it my mind went to a wooden rolling pin possibly in the bowl at an angle with one handle in the bowl one sticking up out to the side... you could add a sifter with some branches of artificial wheat in it or attach them to the rolling pin... If you could find an artificial hunk of dough and sprinkle white powder over all it could give the image of making bread... maybe a gingham towel like they use to cover dough with while it was rising.... I know this may be way off from anything you would have wanted... just a thought...

Coffee beans smell awesome as a filler you could put artificial wild flowers in it as the beans hold them up. I love cotton plants and sunflowers.

Put big seashells in it! If it's dark brown, use shells with brown markings.
