My client requested a side table for his home office / reading room. He wants to display a 100 year old family heirloom mantel clock on it. The space is 29" the chair he likes to sit in is low and the space is somewhat small. His taste seem vintage industrial with an outdoor flair. He is an optimalogist , an avid waterskier and hunter.
I found this little table for $9.99 at my local thrift shop and I bought 9 yard sticks from the home improvement store for $0.98 each.
First I cut the store logo off each end of the yard sticks. Then cut them to different lengths and staggered the sizes. I had 1/2" space left so I had the hubbs cut that on the table saw. That table saw and I have an agreement.. I don't touch it and it won't bite me.. I stained the pieces 3 different colors.
I painted the top part glossy black and the legs and shelves satin black before gluing all the yard stick pieces in place. I finished with a high gloss clear .
My sister in law picked these waterskis up on the side of the road for me last year. I decided this client is the perfect person to create something special for.
I always try to come up with an extra piece when a client hires me. I used one of the skis and an old desk lamp to create a ski reading light / book holder for this particular person.
