I made a buffet (side table) a cabinet to hold quilts/blankets and now a Faux fireplace.

The buffet is a cream color but I'm lost on what color to do the fireplace and cabinet. HELP

    What are they made with? Can you just use a natural wood stain. I'm a big fan of natural wood colors.

    Then the only advice I have is to think about pulling a color from a favorite painting in the room or something like that. Do you have any photos?

    I love experimenting with paint, but there is a balance to achieve with other materials - if everything is painted, it looks more like a store for painted furnishings than decorated room. My favourite colours with cream are a mid greeny-grey "linen" or "sage' (like ascp's linen) for keeping things light; or a darker bluish-grey (like ascp's graphite). Either of these could be used as a semi-opaque wash on bare wood to minimize the contrast of the knotholes, but still looking like an antique, natural wood surface for those reasons that I started out with!
