Update on basement floor done by Amazing Improvements

We had our basement floor stained by Amazing Improvements. We finally chose colors and painted. We thought we'd post a photo of a section that's mostly finished but shows the flooring off. Feels homey to us and the concrete doesn't feel cold. It's been great with 4 dogs and kids. A good choice for the way we live.

I so love this.... now if I will just remember to gamble and play the lottery and win it..... I will be doing this for sure. I will keep my pitiful little home and just fix it up really great and I so love these floors.... on my wish list.

I did this to my whole house! After Hurricane Rita hit us a few years ago, my daughter and I ripped out carpets and floor tiles. It took us a while to do it because we only worked on it nights and weekends. We were living in a camper so we had all time we needed. 2200 sq. ft house cost about $400.00 for just materials. We applied it with a brush it was easy to do just time consuming. The brand I used was Kemco.

In my house I have a walkout basement so only 3 sides are underground. I have windows on the walkout side. Thats probably the case with this one I bet.

@ Donna....it is a walk out basement! I LOVE doing stained concrete floors, but here in Minnesota it works best if you have in floor heat......our basement floors get COLD !!!! :)

I have the same question Sue C. has....how much does it cost? I know it would depend on the size of the room, but how is cost calculated?

We had our church youth room done this way and it only cost us about $850. I love stained concrete and hope to be doing this to our basement.

We have had carpet replaced in our basement because of sump pump problems 3 times. I'd like to do this. What is approximate pricing per square foot?

Thank you very much for your kind comments! This is a walkout basement with windows/doors on 2 sides and leads out to the pool. We moved into the house last summer and the carpet was already there. We are the 4th owners so don't know when the basement was done and if the carpet was done before or after the pool. Carpet was in bad shape so we ripped it out. We wanted something that would be low maintenance and not have to worry about dogs and kids and water from pool. Also used ...»
eco-friendly products. Cost....going from memory so please use as an estimate...I would say $3-5/sq. ft range for us since we had to have some extra work done to prep the floor. Costs might vary state to state too. We looked at all options for months and this has worked out great for the way we live right now.

And yes....the dogs love the cool floors!

I've found that the best way to keep it dust free is to use a dry 'SH Mop" with a little lemon oil sprinkled on it. Catches pet hair, dust and keeps dust from sticking to it.

This looks nice. We are in the process of finishing our walkout basement. I too would like to know the cost per square foot & how long does it last. It is definitely an alternative to laminate & tile, which is what we are thinking about doing. Any comments would be appreciated.

@Denise: We took our time deciding what to use because we have a pool right outside and didn't want to worry about water with kids & dogs. Very little maintenance - I vacuum & damp mop but that's just me.

The cost will depend on where you live and the condition of the concrete.

Our concrete needed extra prepping. I would say, for budget purposes, $3-5.00/sq.ft. SO ...»

worth it! We were also able to use eco-friendly products. Good luck!

Did you use epoxy before painting ? Or did you directly pain on the concrete ?

I used an acid wash stain, put directly on the concrete, then sealed it

Touch up with Future Floor Finish product. I've had mine 7 years. It will wear in spots if not enough sealer is used. Also may be cold in northern climates. Cold ground beneath radiates through the concrete. Great for the south where I live.
