Do you think home warranties are a good investment? I haven't found a Home Warranty company with good online reviews.

I would like to purchase a home warranty if there was a company I could trust. I don't trust paid advertisements, and the online reviews I have seen look bad. Does anyone have good experience with your home warranty company, or a warning about one to avoid?

As a Realtor, I recommend that everyone who purchases a home should get a home warranty. Looking at it for both buyer and seller, if it can happen in the first year after sale/purchase, it will. A home warranty, is not a home warranty, is not a home warranty. HMS and S-10 are my favorites. There are home warranties that allow you to pick your own contractor so the objections of them sending a bad contractor, paying their contractors nothing etc. are an eliminated item. Large factor is why are you thinking about purchasing a home warranty. What are you looking to cover? BTW I do not have a home warranty that costs $600 unless it is because we have extra systems including pools, hot tubs, extra frigs, heating and cooling units and the like. Another thing that you may look into instead of a home warranty is check with your electric and gas companies. Many of them have a program rather similar to a home warranty at a cost in our area between $5 and $15 a month dependent on which utility company area the home is located in, but that is my area. Do I think you should save for home maintenance, yes. Home warranties do not cover everything. If you let me know the reason you are thinking of purchasing a home warranty I can give you a better idea of the results of purchasing a warranty.

home warranty companies, just like any other business, are there to make a profit.odds are in the long run you would be better off putting what you would normally pay in premiums into a separate savings account.you would probably be farther ahead.
