2013 Perennial of the Year - Variegated Solomon's Seal

Since my house faces north I am well acquainted with shade annuals and perennials. I use Variegated Solomon's Seal mostly as a foliage plant with my hostas. It spreads rather slowly in my Zone 3 garden by underground rhizomes. If you would like more information on the Perennial Plant Association's - 2013 Perennial of the year check out this link from Purdue Yard & Garden News. http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/solomonslp-o-y.html
In spring the 18-20" arching stems are filled with tiny white blossoms, but the blossoms are not the real show. It's the foliage.
Solomon's Seal is very hardy but not invasive.
Combined with hostas, Solomon's Seal make a great northern exposure garden bed. (The hostas are behind schedule with this cool spring)
