Up-Cycle From Old Shutter to Organizer

A organizer made from an old shutter and some odds and ends. I saw a similar one at a craft/home decor store priced at $60!
I have awkwardly sized wall space in my kitchen, so I made a custom sized organizer to hang in a particularly narrow space. This will be mainly used to hold important notices that we can't forget about and pens and pencils, which are always impossible to find in our house.
I started with an old shutter I bought at ReStore for $3. It was the perfect narrow width for the space in my kitchen.
I sanded it and spray painted it yellow. Then the second coat was spray painted black. Here is where I made a huge mistake. I was just using whatever I had around the house to keep the cost down. And because of all the nooks and crannys in a shutter I wanted to use spray paint. When I went to distress it, I realized that the spray paint I used was Rustoleum High Performance Enamel in gloss black. I don't mind the gloss finish, but because it was a high performance paint, it was extremely difficult to distress. Only very little bits of the yellow ended up peeking through. So this piece ended up a little less distressed than I originally was going for, but it worked out in the end.
The finished product...You can see the little bits of yellow and white peeking through the black paint. I added some clips onto the shutter slats (The clips were originally magnets, but I just popped the magnet part off). This is to clip any important papers/notices. Then I added a cute little farmhouse basket with milk bottles that I found on clearance at the craft store to the bottom to hold pens and pencils. The knob was a last minute addition because I happen to find it in a drawer as I was working on the project.
