Pretty Cheap Planters

When I saw pretty children's rainboots at the the Goodwill Store, it occured to me that they'd make great planters. I couldn't find any boots at thrift stores this year, but did find some at Aldi. They were $6 a pair.
I cut a hole in the bottom of each boot. There's a rectangle on the bottom that usually has the size on it. Very carefully cut a hole to allow for drainage. I used an exacto knife, scissors and a steak knife. It does take some maneuvering to get the square out.
Put some gravel in the bottom of each boot.
Add potting soil, leaving a 2 or 3 inches at the top.
Plant a pretty annual in each boot. Add a bit of potting soil to the top of each boot. I put the boots in a clear plastic tray that I had laying around.
Put your creation on the front porch for everyone to see. (I did use some boots left from last year to have an even number).

In my very large pots we put 6-8 inch pieces of swim noodles to lighten the weight. These do not blow around when you empty the pot for next season.
