What decorative item should we put in this odd space?

Obviously, I can neaten up the cables yet we want something to distract the eye from this odd empty space. Please note that unfortunately the television cannot be relocated. All suggestions appreciated! What will look good between the television and the hearth?

I would pull the TV stand forward to hide the cables. I like an uncluttered look and you already have a bunch of small things. My first choice would be to eliminate the books, place a basket of logs next to the TV and move the vase elsewhere. Alternatively, would remove that stack of books and the piece on top of them and move the vase to the TV side, leaving the right side empty.

I think a large leafy plant in a pretty pot would soften and enliven the area. Just make sure you check and get the right kind of plant for the amount of light coming in. A peace lily is easy to grow and does not need a lot of light. If you have pets or young children, make sure the plant you choose is not toxic.

You can even use an artificial plant.

Definitely a large floor plant work work well in the area.

Tall vase or urn with tall tinylighted branches mixed with tall grasses, straw-like flowers/filler in color to compliment décor. You could even use the urn from the other side of the hearth and move the books to that space. Then add pillows, or a statue, large lantern that you can add lights to that are battery operated . These items can be found in discount stores or Craft stores. If you have any questions contact me on FB gloriasgarden@outlook.com

Thank You Gloria Brown, we say such lite branches at Hobby Lobby. Worried the little lights would distract from the tv screen. Your ideas are very helpful.

Wire covers are pretty inexpensive and most can be painted to blend right in. It looks as if you could mount it to the underside of the window trim to make it nearly invisible. Then you would not need anything too big to camouflage where the cables come out of the wall. (pillow, candle , vase, book, plant, etc) see this link for wire channels ... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Wiremold-500-Series-10-ft-Wire-Channel-V500/100207385

Can you move the TV closer to the hearth...wires will be behind the TV? Then where the books are, put a pretty plant. Cat, which is on the books, can sit next to the plant pot. If you can't move the TV closer, then I would still put a plant in the space to cover the wires...and leave hearth "stuff" alone.

Plenty of great suggestions. Now we must decide.

I'd put hockey stick tape (white/beige) over the wires. Just my opinion, but your mantle is very heavy and looks suspended. I'd put wood the same width as the bottom parts and make it look more supported. That would draw the eye to the fireplace more as the focal point. It would also help balance the bulk of your TV set up. Like the idea of a tall, leafy plant (artificial or real) to soften the straight edges.

Maybe you could hang curtains. Get a nice rod and hang those curtains with grommets that you could leave open. It would fill that area and help cover those cords. Maybe some pillows on the hearth to soften the area.

I agree with Krager057 - hang curtain panels on that window. Grommets are the way to go. It would soften the area, cover the cords and make your window stand out.
