How NOT to build a fence...

I've been doing a bunch of work for a client up in Wyoming these last couple of weeks. Yesterday when chatting with the clients They mentioned something about a neighbors fence and how part a shed was modified to do this...I was a bit surprised to hear this. Well the photo does not lie...the corner of the garden shed was cut away to install a fence post. This has got to be the goofiest thing I have seen in a while. What was just as goofy was the neighbor behind this one.

In this second yard the fence extends into the garage...not to the garage but INSIDE the garage. This renders the garage door completely useless. So the two most wacky fence projects I have ever seen are right next door to each other. It almost has me wondering if there is some type of "Bermuda Triangle" of poor fence design there.

Cathy, one of the purposes of this site is to help homeowners expand their knowledge base and to know what not to do. You're entitled to your opinion but I think it very professional to post clearly obvious construction issues, especially when they are so far from good construction practices. The "funny" comes from being so very obvious that the "solution" for whatever the "problem" was is so "out of the box".

wow, so many responses...it is just my opinion. It's a what not to do professionally also. But I see all the people that think this is funny are not Westerners. We think differently here and I'd still kick your tail...just saying ;)

Well, I am a westerner, Cathy...and if my hubs did something like that, i would really let him know ..this is NOT acceptable. We don't do this kind of stuff here in my backyard! Trust me, I have had to redirect some of his projects! Thankfully, he listens! Maybe there is a little redneck in all of us?

@KMS..thanks for the pics! Sharing with hubs! hahahaha

@Bernice, itis not about whether the fence is right..I think it's obvious that itis not right....the point is: a professional posting clients neighbor"s business on the internet.

Uhh these fences are not dirty little secrets being exposed. They are in plain view. I only wish I'd taken photos of all the goofy things the previous homeowner did to my current residence to show what NOT to do. They'd be informative and provide a good laugh just as these photos have.

Joining in late - but I can't help but think about the faucet that was placed to far away from the bowl. Quite a few of us got laughs out of that "Oops" . I have no idea who's fence did what as no names were mentioned, but I am pretty sure that the neighbors around them scratched their heads too.

Yes, and I am a Westerner, formally from Tombstone, AZ now in Oregon and born in San Diego. Can't get any more westerner then that and the person that did this is still a weirdo.

And any contractor agreeing that this was a ridiculous construction plan gets my vote all the way.

You are entitled to your reply and so are we.

    Peace to you.

Some of the video does remind me of home but not all rednecks do it that way.! The plumbing platform for the computer in the car wasn't a a bad idea. Just as long as they aren't working on the computer while they drive.@KMS did you ever ask the owners of the weird fencing why?

I got a bit of an explanation last week when I was up there. It turns out the "old" fence was there. So basically when the shed was "installed" or built it was notched for the existing fence. This new fence is being installed in the same place.

So the 10,000 dollar question is why was the shed not set a few inches over originally?

No clue at all of the garage door / fence.

you should venture out to NW Missouri, where I live if you want to see goofy! Joe Homeowner originated here, along with the pony express lol. I get calls all the time to come 'undo' what former owners have done to properties. It's scary really how often it occurs!

garage door fence, hummm maybe they didn't want to close the door or its a cheeper way of making the garage "bigger" without a roof.
