    Thank you for the suggestions but this doesn't answer my question because my wooden tabletop is "finished". The only response I found was for unfinished wood. Could we try again? Many Thanks!

    rub mayonnaise on it, leave on overnight and rub off - voila - stain gone!

    Annie is right. Mayonnaise works great. You might also try car wax if that doesn't work.
