Not solid wood, but what the heck is wood solid?! My husband wants to buy new bedroom set and it says the suite is made of wood solid. Is this a particle board with veneer over? I don't want to pay 1000 for a piece of crap bedroom set that will last only a few years!

I have never heard of wood solid. Where is he buying this?
  • Sounds like a typo to me. Did a Google search and the only answer I got was MDF type boards. Meaning not solid wood but wood made of wood products. Sounds like junk to me.

I just delivered a night stand "repair" job to a client yesterday. This piece had sustained some serious gouges in the top from the movers. I had to sand down the top to bare wood, color match the stain, then top coat. This piece is solid cherry and despite being made in China, is of decent enough quality that this repair was justified. Had this thing been made from a veneer over MDF or particle board. The repair would not have been possible with out a new application of veneer over a "filled" hole. My motto is always go with real wood. If at all possible go to the store and look closely at the pieces in question.

I talked to the sales person and it's a press board with solid wood chips all mashed and glued together. Kind of like sausage. It's not the first time I have seen it either. Cheaper furnature store have it. Most consumers don't even pay attention. We were looking at some place online don't remember the name, but also at Rooms to Go, mst if their stuff is "wood solids" Buyers beware! Shop at Ashley. They have great quality stuff, it's solid wood, and it lasts forever!
