What's summer without aromatic and delicious basil? Whether it's crushed into pesto or eaten fresh with a sliced tomato, basil is easy to love for the cook and gardener. Here are six of my favorite varieties to grow and enjoy this year...
'African Blue' is actually a perennial. The flowers are sterile, so you can enjoy them all season in different culinary dishes..
'Genovese' is the pesto-lovers' basil. This popular Italian variety is renowned for cooking.
'Amethyst' typically has purple foliage, but these leaves had a speckled look that drew applause at our house.
