What is this Shrub?

This 10' tall shrub is covered in gorgeous little pink flowers. The branches have an arching form when the shrub is in bloom.The bark is always shedding (that's a good thing). There are no berries. I see them all over town, but don't know what it is. A friend said it might be a ninebark, but I've never seen one like it.

Thanks for the suggestion of weigela - I'm pretty sure that's what it is after all. I've just never seen one that large before - most of them are usually no bigger than 4 or 5 feet. But it's an old shrub. Now all I have to do it find out which variety and how to tame it.

Douglas Hunt - I love John and his blog. He's always so informative. If I didn't need the privacy, I would cut the shrub back to almost nothing and start over. We did that with an overgrown spirea and it's doing well.

I have mum's growing and look like buds on them I don't want them to bloom this early, I want then to bloom the end of August. someone told me to cut the down and the will regrow in time for fall...is that ok?
