They say one man's trash is another woman's treasure.

I found this door in a construction dumpster and now it is the perfect message board to help keep me organized. http://www.thespacebetweenblog.net/2012/04/1...

What did you use to replace or laminate over the panels so you could write on it?

Sawhorse...you can buy chalkboard paint. You spray it on and you have a chalkboard.

I would imagine the corks make a bulletin board for tacks. This is a cool idea.

Is the section on the right chalkboard? It looked like dry erase. The center looked more like chalkboard.

Hi Sawhorse! Yes, the panel on the right is like a dry erase board. I found the door with the four window panels intact. If you just paint behind the glass it gives it a nice background and you can use a dry erase marker right on the glass. :)

Hi Charlie- you can definitely buy chalkboard paint, but i found a way to make my own so I could customize the color. If you ever want to try it I explain how here. :) http://www.thespacebetweenblog.net/2012/04/2...

Hi Miriam and Todd! Yes the corks are for a cork board, but I need more to fill up the whole panel. I'm taking volunteers to come visit me in Curaçao and help drink some wine. ;)

What other material could the chalk board paint be applied to? Wood? I imagine it would have to be pretty smooth whatever it is.

Petal Pushers! First, I'm originally from ME too!! Gorham to be exact, my whole family still lives in the area. I heart ME. :) And to answer your question, I can't imagine any surface you couldn't use this on. I do think you'd want to sand down a previously painted wall. But I'm actually going to try it on driftwood tomorrow, I would think it would work on wood, drywall, plaster. But, just to be clear, I haven't tried it so don't know for sure. Please let me know if you try it. :)
