Can you use semi gloss paint when mixing your own chalk paint?

I think this would be more problematic...chalk paint are normally flat.

The waxes wouldn't work either on semi gloss!

I know that chalk board paint can be spendy and some of it not so durable..and although this is not a non-toxic form, it is cheap and in my opinion, tougher, perfect for those pieces that will be getting a lot of wear. You can use a non-toxic sealer on it as well. Sorry Ce Ce and Annie..xoxo A pint of paint holds 2 cups, so..1/4 cup of unsanded tile grout per pint. Two pints equal a quart: 1/2 cup of grout. Four quarts equal a gallon: 2 cup of grout. You will not need wax but may need a sealer/finish. If its a tabletop, I would recommend sealing it. Just use your best judgement. Great question!! For those who question the durability..you don't need wax or sealer when using semi-gloss..it already has the shine and tough finish. You can add your aging color to your polyurethane or non-toxic finish if you want, but this type finish is very durable.

Yes. Semi-gloss takes more curing time but when I send out a piece, I want it to last. It's tough, which means it needs time to cure. I give it 72 hours then I do the distressing, sanding, etc...If it's a piece that I plan to age, I use a good sealer and mix my aging color in it, usually burnt umber stain. Normally, I apply 2 coats allowing each to cure 24 hours. I recommend this for any piece that is meant to be used a lot and needs the durability. I do wax the piece, but I make my own out of beeswax and linseed oil.

I did buy the flat paint. I'm guessing the consistency of the chalk paint should be about the same as paint is normally. Mine seems a little thick. I used 4 cups of paint to 1/4 cup water to 1/2 cup plaster of paris.
