Ideas for a grooved, cement wall painted olive green?

My apartment has a cement patio wall on which I cannot drill holes to hang things. I got an idea to make pillows for my wicker chairs in an apricot/orchid colour and just making it more a tropical setting; maybe dark lime green for low table. I thought to put up a wooden board so I could drill into it to hang things but that board would need to be attached to the cement wall. What would you do with this space? Thanks!

I think the first thing is are you allowed to make holes in the wall or do you just want to make a pretty background of something leaning on the wall?

Since you can't drill into the wall, how about using 3M Command hooks. There are all kinds and the stick to walls. You can hang anything you want.

@William thanks so much for the idea. didn't know there were such things. I'd like to hang pictures and even a few plants. Good idea.

Seeing as you can't drill holes I agree that the 3M Command hooks and strips would work best in this case.

Since you said you can't make any holes I would measure the space between the groves and get some wood cut or even dowles and push /hammer them in the groves and then you can nail or screw things to them. ( the wood )You can cut the pieces the whole length or just short . They could be painted the same colour or different bright colours.Hope this helps please share the results.

If you want to hang things like bird cages, wind chimes and decorative items, what about getting an old decorative coat rack and hang things from it, altering the heights with cords or ribbon? Sometimes you just can't hang picture!

Why not paint either the groove OR the other strip, another color to complement your pillows, etc? Or, repainted it all another, lighter more attractive color?

@Jeannie what a great idea! I had thought to do this but wasn't sure on the colour so maybe matching it with pillows will work. Another reader suggested bamboo into the slots and I think I'll try that but will paint it a lighter colour as you suggested. Thanks so much for your suggestions!

If it were mine ....I'd use the idea of a frame of bamboo....then get 4 pallets ,clean or paint them ...use the underside and stick small plant pots with plants in them ,fix thepallets to the bamboo frame water plants and you have a living wall . usually people give the pallets away, you can use plants that hang or travel .Think of the colors you can have.Plus it will get lush.

@Marilynn Joy super ideas! a living wall is something I had thought of but could not figure out how to do it with the cement wall. yes the bamboo frame etc will work out. Will post a picture after I choose which items I will incorporate on to the patio. Thanks again.

Another thought is if you can do it is to hang a tension rod across the top like a shower curtain rod and find a couple of tropical looking inexpensive cloth shower curtains to hang that would coordinate with the theme you are looking for.
