Fertilizer Tips & Tricks That Work For Me.

With a 3 to 3 1/2 month growing season here in northern Minnesota, I have to help my blooms with a little fertilizer. This is what has worked consistently for me.
1. Planting: When planting new annuals and perennials, put a scoop full of timed release fertilizer into each planting hole.
2. Container Gardens: Use 1/2 scoop of fertilizer to two gallons of water for container gardens every time you water. Remember it most of the water you pour in runs through.
3. Garden Beds: Water down your flower beds before fertilizer (better yet fertilize after a rain)
Mix one scoop full of fertilizer to two gallons of water.
Now water each annual individually. Since the bed was already watered, just pour a small amount directly at the base of each plant.
I fertilize my garden beds like this every week, and for me these tips work!

My dogs, especially my beagle, love organic fertilizers . they will dig up any fertilized that way. I swear by Osmocote. Plants don't care where that N2 ion comes from. marcia

You have such a beautiful garden! I agree about using fertiliser often - I personally make my own, simply because I have everything I need readily available. My favourite is sea weed fertiliser. I am lucky enough to have the beach a ten minute walk from my home. I also use my own versions of banana peel tea, and worm castings tea. Your plants are flourishing, just goes to show how our efforts are rewarded in our gardens - and often, very quickly!
