Besides what Leslie said I think it also needs something tall in the room. Book case or something. Everything is to low to the ground.

Lighting, lighting, lighting!!!! Once that is all set - then see what else would be needed. An incredible chandelier as a focal piece of the room. With a view like that I wouldn't want anything to take away from it!

In a room this dark I often like to see at least one wall a lighter variance of the other walls color; ie..dark gray becomes early dawn gray on one wall; also give the room some deserved height...perhaps even go wild and add faux stained glass in vibrant colors to the top windows. Use bright throw pillows reflecting the stained glass colors on the couch and for place mats. This is a beautiful room that has fallen asleep and just needs to be woke up. But do the changes slowly until you ...»
reach just the right level that fits YOUR style...Good Luck!!

Go with a turquoise on the walls, kind of blends with the sky. Find a nice rug with turquoise and red and or orange (like a sunrise of sunset.) Use a beautiful table runner down the center of the table in your colors with a lovely vase and a huge flower display. Some pretty lamps with color sitting around the room would help. Also largescale paintings in this room would be fabulous and use museum lights on them. Use some pretty tall plants sitting in the corner next to the window with ...»
graduating plants all around and use uplights in the plants. Do you have a buffet? That would be pretty with a nice pretty bright color soup tureen. How is that for a start anyway?

Paint a shimmery continued city skyline on the walls. Add a large rug to middle floor, move the eating back to wall and out glass to reflect light, with huge mirror reflecting the shimmery painted skyline sleek sofa the color of sidewalks. Open up the center of the room. Lighting with a punch from small places.

What a beautiful view! The room does need more lighting. The tv seems so lonely on that side of the room. Prehaps a larger cabinet to house it. It does need something tall in the room to bring the eye up. Adding color thru pillows, throws, & flowers or plants. Personalize with family photos and perhaps display personal collections. Just hanging floor length sheer panels to just the sides of the window won't obstruct the view, but will soften the harsh lines of the room. A plush area rug would also add lots of texture to the room too.

You need some life in this room. It has no personality yet. Add some great pops of color- some light colored throw pillows on the couch with pops of color and lots of texture. Put a great centerpeice on your table. I am guessing the angle you took the picture from makes the room look darker than it is since the light was in front of you. It just needs some color and your personality. Get some plants in there to add life. If you are forgetful about watering your can find some awesome silk ...»
arrangements out there these days. It appears you are a minimalist- so don't go too crazy or the room will make you feel uncomfortable. Keep the lines clean.

Put a mirrored glass top on the table, or better still get a glass topped table, hang a chandelier over it in some style you like that is shiny and reflects light on the table, cover the dining chairs in white slipcovers to the floor. do something with the furniture, everything is so dark and you seem to have little ambient light available. If you like your furniture lighten it up some how , either slipcovers or lots of pillows in some light shades, white, cream, grey, whatever works ...»
with your taste. Hang a big mirror over the sofa, if that is a sofa on the left, You could put a light colored rug under the table but I do not feel that will help, you need light and reflection to give it life. Some very large leafy plants near the window might bring some life into the room I would have to see how that works, the greenery might work well to bring some life into it, It seems so gloomy!

The walls need color, a much larger piece of wall art, automatic window blinds to use for sunblock and added character, modern floral center piece in the center of the table. Instead of a piece of art you may want to just experiment with a paint color and a vinyl print that uses your large wall space. Just search "vinyl wall art" under Google Images for inspiration.

The view is beautiful. I think it needs some warmth in the room.. closing the room up at night.. with shades.. would be interesting to see this room at night.. need a few pops of color. To each his own.. tho.. if it makes you happy.. that is all that's needed..

YOu could play off the colors of those buildings in the distance. Say; find a rug in that color red, paint some of the walls that silver color or the blue. In fact, you could use blue as the wall color to mimic the sky. Use five or more wall sconce lights to enhance the lighting, which seems to be the worst problem. Then, address what style you want to finish the room off... A great view!

I Love the tall glass windows/door and the view, it brings in the natural light. however the interior appears dark and gloomy. higher lights and bright accent colors on table and chair also a taller poted plant will probaly accentuate the room. sometimes less is more. I like it, it's very doable.

White walls tend to be grey at dusk or in a darker room. Unless you like that look, go with some color you enjoy and don't be afraid to go with a color that has some punch to it. Play with textures and art. Textiles are your friends here. Think rugs and pillows. Tall plants at the window will add an organic element. What a lucky person to have that view!
