Been busy re-doing a table I found along side a dumpster!

It's been 3 days of sanding, priming, sanding, painting, sanding... a jet flying around and a falcon rocket launch! I have to wax and seal still. The pictures came out out of order... I primed, painted coral, painted yellow on side and bottom - leaving top coral. See more on my blog: http://thejourneysend-thejourneysend.blogsp...

after side and bottom were painted yellow, I painted the grooves a burnt orange.

Thank you all for your great comments! I live alone so there isn't anyone to turn around and ask...what do you think? So it's hard to judge sometimes.

This is the first and only piece I've gotten by the dumpster and I think I have to go out more often. There is a small apartment complex (you may want to check your area) that people throw out or get evicted. I think this was a throw out; evictions have bigger piles but I will only take ...»

solid wood. I've missed a couple of pieces. I usually go to the SPCA Thrift Store. They always have a great selection and priced to sell. I have 2 chairs that match and nothing wrong for $15. Got a living room chair for $5 and end table for $1... and more. I'll post as I go.

Right now, I am just painting for myself. I am in the process of a new life and giving new life to my home inside and out. I'm doing this for my kitchen and these are my kitchen colors. From what I see there is money to be made selling custom pieces. I'd like to do some small pieces and see how that goes but for now it's for me.

Pat, if you are near a Habitat for Humanity Store, you can sometimes find great pieces for not too much. I just found out we have one here in my town. Went once but will definitely be returning. When I think of all of the things I have given away and what I could have done to give them a whole new life, I could cry. Oh well, others who needed them used them and that is a good feeling.

@Pam D. I know, doesn't it just make you sick when you think of all the things we've gotten rid of that we could have given new life to. I've done remakes on numerous things through the years from picture frames, brass candlesticks, painted a fabric chair, and numerous wood pieces. The one I most regret not keeping was an old vanity style dresser & tri-fold mirror. Tears!!! ;<(

This is an awesome find, and you have done a great job on it! I don't blame you for keeping it, either :D When I'm out walking my dog, I like to take the route next to my apartments trash dumpsters, too, lol! But never found anything this nice!

Ladies, THANK YOU! I am having a blast. I don't find things all the time but when I do, I am so excited about it. Oh no, let's not talk about the things we give up! I was thinking about a few pieces I gave away just last night. The way I look at it is: someone else got good use and needed it more than I did at the time, and that was a different life. This life, I appreciate and do what I can. Sometimes it's not as much as I'd like and not a fast as I can but I do what I can.

@Terri - Nope, I don't THINK Pa. is considered even a little bit south!! So just HOW did you wind up there, all the way from Fl. Pretty drastic change!!

and I did the opposite; went from Long Island with a job transfer to Florida but then the 2008 crash came along so here I stay.

@ Ana - I have wanted to try CeCe paints but right now I find them too expensive for the budget. So far this table has only cost me $2.94... as impatient as I am, time is all I've got. Thank you. I have linked up on FB to Shabby Daze.

Thanks for the support. Always say I will make it back there one day, even if it is in a tin can (lol). Nothing against anyone who lives in the north, but I miss Spanish Moss and "Southern Hospitality."

You did a great job! I think up here in the north (PA) people are more likely to throw things away instead of fixing them up for ourselves or giving them to people that could use them. I myself, haven't figured that one out yet but I regularly go to house developments on trash day. Almost all my outdoor furniture is from the trash. I have even found some that still have the store tags on them. As for your life, anything is possible if you are willing to work on it. I have always told my ...»
girls, you can do anything if you put your mind to it. GOOD LUCK! Keep the faith.

Like the little engine - I know I can, I know I can, I know I can... All things are possible, but not always when I want it to be done by. Patience is a virtue I never have possessed..

@ Pat S...Those chairs look great, I'm sure the skill you learned working on the table will come in handy. You may need to sand or rough them up a bit more than the table for some good paint adhesion..they look a bit shinny in your pics.

@Terri...we are all plugging for you
