Dining Room Makeover

After living in our new house for a couple of years, I finally got around to tackling the dining room. It's one of the first rooms you see when you enter from the front door; however, it's the least used room in the house.
This is our starting point. The walls had already been painted to match the rest of the open concept areas. My love of antique furniture caused a little too much of a brown theme though! We had brown furniture, brown rug, and brown chandelier. Everything just blended right in.
I gave the oil rubbed bronze chandelier a new look and you can read more about it here: http://www.thetatteredrabbit.com/oil-rubbed-bronze-chandelier-makeover/
The table and chairs got a new look to camouflage some of that heaviness and to show off those great details. You won't believe the legs on this girl. You can read the tutorial on that here: http://www.thetatteredrabbit.com/general-finishes-java-gel-stain-and-antique-white-dining-room-table-makeover/
I got a steal on a new rug which really lightened up the area. I also used beautiful silver plate pieces with fresh cut flowers to give a designer look. I recovered a bench, added some vintage white ironstone, and some "new" vintage pictures around the 1890s sideboard. For the complete reveal see my blog at:

Jeanette S on May 16, 2016I wish you had shown an after photo on this post so as not to have to work our way through a web page. This is one of those posts I would have loved to have seen the "after" photo and moved on.

Gail Salminen on May 17, 2016@At Home With The Ellingtons what a lovely transformation - not too drastic - love how you only refinished some well selected pieces of the wood of the set. Very simplified transformation and really lightened up the whole atmosphere. The way you displayed the flowers is ingenious - and oh so elegant! Thanks for sharing :)
