Our whole home remodel continues. Today's decorating issue is an odd corner that really needs help. Please take a look at the two photos and suggest, suggest, suggest! Btw, being we are still in the midst of work you will notice unfinished tasks.
Thank you in advance.

I visualize pictures on the walls and a pretty lowlight plant on your table.

Love the lighting! I'd maybe consider hanging a mirror on the wall next to the window to help reflect the lighting and then a couple framed photos on the short wall to the right. Some pretty vintage pottery pieces and a container of fresh flowers would be nice on the tabletop.

From your photos I'm going to guess you feel the extra floor space in the corner (created by what I presume is a sofa table between the window and sofa) is a problem. I don't see it as a problem at all since not every nook and crannie in a room needs to be filled. I actually think the torchiere lamp accentuates the fact there is a space back there. It is a pretty lamp but it just seems like the wrong place for it, imho. If this were my room, I would use a regular table lamp on the end table (which would provide task lighting rather than illuminating the ceiling like the torchiere does). Stationary curtain panels on each side of the window could also help fill that blank wall. If you aren't a "curtain person" (I'm not--I prefer no fabric window treatments in most of my rooms), I would consider Janet's suggestion of art. I would look for 2 square shaped companion art prints stacked one over the other (after removing the torchiere lamp). I would also replace the throw pillow that matches the sofa for one with an accent color (perhaps a color taken from the artwork), as there is a whole lot of brown going on in that corner. Janet's other suggestion of a plant on the end table is a good one too as it would bring color and life to the corner. There should be enough space to fit a small houseplant on the table with a lamp.

You don't need to fill every square inch of the floor. Empty or negative space is a necessity. Do you read in the corner? If so, you need a lamp with a down light, not an up light. I would hang some artwork. You could also add a stack of books and a vase of flowers or a plant.

Hi Lou! I personally don't think that the floor lamp fits in the space behind the end table. Floor lamps would typically be standing alone- it looks chopped in the middle because the table blocks your sight line. I would move that out and add a mirror or a picture/painting on the wall next to the window. Then add a table lamp to the side table and whatever accessories you would like to enhance your decorating style.

All suggestions are good. Before the new furniture the floor lamp was unobstructed. Removing the floor lamp is no problem. Artwork is no problem. Plants are no problem. There is an end table on the other end of the love seat. On that end table is a Dale Tiffiany (no affiliation with "the Tiffiany company") very lovely stained glass lamp that my wife adores. Since that specific lamp is no longer available putting another exactly like it on the chair table between my recliner and the love seat is a problem. Convincing my wife to move her lamp to another room so two twin lamps can go on the tables is likewise a problem. Can a non-matching lamp go on the chair table on this end? If so, I would imagine it has to be very, very different. Is that ever done? Your thoughts please.

Sue, I clarified the brand as Dale Tiffany. My wif laughed when I told here that I at first thought it was a real "Tiffiany". 🙄

If you are not in need of a lamp for reading, a lovely vase of real flowers, a dried flower arrangement , or terrarium etc. would look very pretty on the chair table . Do you have an arts club in your area? Chances are, if you do, it would be quite possible to get another stained glass lamp made. It doesn't mean it would cost you and arm and a leg either. A good stained glass artist could make you a "similar" one.

I would put a lamp on the table and a painting on the wall behind the couch.
  • Maureen Maureen on May 16, 2016
How 'bout a small table lamp, replacing the floor lamp. Then hang a unique piece of art from the ceiling - diagonally - using fishing line. I've done this with great results.
  • Merrelljoyce Merrelljoyce on May 16, 2016
You could put a green plant and a book on the table, move the lamp closer to the couch and put an elongated wall hanging on the side wall.
  • Johnchip Johnchip on May 16, 2016
Go fish! A nice bowl with a plant and fish. Also I would consider painting the corner walls an accent color, thus bringing it attention rather than trying to make it disappear.

since it's right beside a window, I'm picturing a corner bookshelf (V-shaped) the height of the wall (or almost) with lots of different colored glass vasses & jars..(& maybe an ivy vine trailing down from the top shelf) .would be a lovely way to catch the light rays of the window
  • Jam2253522 Jam2253522 on May 16, 2016
something like this shelf, painted or unpainted, might even look nice with colored vases/jars,,lights could be added to the shelf,,then a round endtable in front of it..... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9WU-OWKi6sU/TwnSyvcJ75I/AAAAAAAABZc/OgcgRGf2D2k/s400/202929873_vjFY0A1e_c.jpg

I think 2 mirrors on the wall,,,right into the corner, they would give the illusion of a corner window,. reflect light. Sit a table at the bottom of the mirrors with a small lamp on it. Or a nice plant. Your feature corner is done, right? Mirrors can do wonderful things, added interest.
  • Debra Debra on May 16, 2016
shutters in the corner, hinges in the center so they open in a backwards V-the open side facing out, then fill with small hanging mirrors, photos, artwork etc.
  • Darla Toth Darla Toth on May 16, 2016
I would wallpaper the whole window wall...Something with some texture, perhaps or a metallic embossed paper. To add or just on it's own, I would do a small round occasional table in the corner and have a lamp sitting atop. On the wall above the table a nice larger starburst mirror or two smaller starbursts. I also like a large plant idea for the corner, so, either way??? (I say the paper and starburst mirror)...Just a thought... a little family photo gallery would work to jazz up the corner, too. Just keep it black and white with same color frames for all! You could still do a round table and small lamp with the corner gallery wall. Check this out-Amazing!!!! Nice thing, too...pictures won't get 'bumped'. http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2013/10/how-to-style-a.html

I would get a folding 3 panel screen for the corner and hang a few paintings or framed photos on the slats. I did this in the sunroom and it looks great plus I get lots of praise.
  • Elle Elle on May 16, 2016
A large vase filled with dried flowers would look wonderful on the table and that is all you need. Could change out arrangements endlessly. I had the same problem.
  • Mabeline Mabeline on May 16, 2016
I would create some depth with the ladder idea (http://www.hometalk.com/diy/craft-room/craft-supply-storage/creative-storage-in-dead-space-behind-door-ladder-12433245). Only I would add house plants to the attached pails. Then I could change plants with the seasons; poinsettias at Xmas; succulents in the summer etc.
  • Cindy Fahr-Webster Cindy Fahr-Webster on May 16, 2016
family photos in great frames and a plant
  • Gina Maylone Gina Maylone on May 16, 2016
    A ladder for sure.

Live full lush plant on a stand or maybe a ficus tree to fill out the corner.
  • NORMA NORMA on May 16, 2016
I agree with Stephanie Theus, personally I think a ladder with fill the corner up to much ,especially if you where to add ornaments ,,,,happy planning !

How about a long mirror on the wall behind the lamp. I'd also suggest things you love on your table.( books, pictures, anything from a special trip) have fun!

When looking for ideas for an odd corner I Googled "dress up empty living room corner", then chose "images" and found lots of great ideas. Went with a large plant as they add life without looking cluttered. Would love to see what you decide to do. Best.
  • Liz Liz on May 16, 2016
A slim bookcase would hold both books and ornaments.
  • Kay Kay on May 16, 2016
you should do a tree decal ,with pictures hanging from the branches.....check amazon.
  • Mike Mike on May 16, 2016
Corner shelves. If you want green put it up higher and put a draping type of plant on it.
  • Kathy Bitzan Kathy Bitzan on May 16, 2016
Great place for pictures and that tree decal. Or even a nice floor plant with some height.
  • Kathy T. Kathy T. on May 16, 2016
I would do an art piece on each wall, approximately 20" in height. A medium decorative lamp on table for reading light.

If you have the space, I have two hibiscus trees in my corners. We have had them for over 10 years. They BLOOM ALL YEAR round, and are available in a multitude of colors (you can match them to your decor!). The flowers are big too. The leaves are true green to the room. They don't need much: just water and sun. They are tall enough to make a statement. I move mine outside in the summer, but really love them inside. I don't think you will likely find them in a local nursery. Lowes, Home Depot and Costco usually have them. They are relatively inexpensive, given the size and year round flowering.

Lucky us! I contacted the maker of our faux Tiffiany lamp and the CSR presented us with two options. Dulicate our current light from parts or purchase a whole one from Amazon. A new on one will soon be on its way to us from Amazon. Art is next.

Terrific feedback with lots of ideas! Guided us to success! Thank you all!

Here is a photo of our present lamp that sits on the couches end table. The new one, a duplicate will sit on the chair table between my recliner and this end of end of the couch. Btw, the lamp's brand is Dale Tiffiany (LOL). They are not cheap. The one on order was about $280 with tax and delivery from Amazon. For those who may be interested I'm including a link to Dale Tiffiany Lighting. http://daletiffany.com/index.php

put in 3or 4 corner shelves directly on the walls (not a ready made unit) add a few books, collectibles , a nice place for a bright vase of flowers too.
  • Jennifer Thompson Jennifer Thompson on May 22, 2016
Add a tall houseplant behind the table and uplifting to add interest and fill the space. Then add a few botanical pieces of framed art.
