  • Rose I assume your saying that you have bugs eating the leaves on your plants? Without knowing a bit more about the type of plants and perhaps a description of what the bugs look like and the damage they are having on the plants, Its pretty much a guess on what you can do that will really work. Try posting some more information and if you can a few photos of the plants with the damage. There are some great folks here that will be able to provide a spot on answer to your problem.

Throw your dishwater on them. Bugs hate it and it doesn't hurt the flowers.

You really do need to know what kind of bug you have before you come up with an offensive strategy. One thing you can safely do, that will take care of a large number of pests, is just start by giving your plants a good blast of water.

@Rose ruffing it is difficult to help you with so little info. If you can, post a pic of the plant and another of the pest. If this isn't possible, I recommend you place a leaf with a bug on in into a plastic baggie and seal it well - this important because no nursery wants pests released in their business. If you do this you can go to a local nursery and they can help you. I have done this a couple of times with great success in finding out how to get rid of the pests. Good luck and if you can do update us on the progress.

Check with your county master gardeners. Take a sample of the damage and the bug into the office or email them some photos. They have resources to help ID your pest and the best way to get rid of it.

dish soap and water works great on most sucking bugs, everyone is so quick to spray bug killers which kill all the good bugs and BEES as well!! wake up people before we have no BEES left on this earth! what kind of damage, if it is leaves it is most likely slugs or ear wigs their damage looks similar to slug damage! you can deal with both easily without killing of every good bug in your yard as well. Slugs a pie plate full of beer will take care of them,, tuna juice bury the tuna with juice can level with the ground earwigs will come a runnin' and that takes care of them.

I found this: Gallon of water, 1 chopped onion add to gal of water. let it sit under the sun for 3days and spray it over your veg plants, n flowers to keep bugs from eating the leaves. I personally used it on the lawn and around the windows n doors to keep the bugs n mosquitoes away and it worked. I read this in magazine from old sturbridge village. I will be trying this for sure.

it is one gallon of water, one cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide, and one Table spoon of dish soap or any sticking agent. Doesn't mater how much you put on the plants it wont hurt them. Squash bugs and ear wicks you have to hit them directly.
