If your tree was healthy when it came down, it's fine to use the needles as mulch. But it's actually only an old wives' tale that they acidify the soil. If the soil is acidic it was that way before you planted the spruce. Before you plant new things, it would be best to do a soil test. -
How much sun do you have since the tree is cut now? Think about sun loving plants if that's your case! I use the needles as a mulch. Compost the rest! My next door neighbor has a 100 ft pine in her yard. : ) -
Sun loving plants- perennials would be great. Tell us more about the site and soil so we can give good recommendations. -
Be careful what you plant because the soil will be acidic! -
thanks to everyone for the help. i transplanted a couple of grasses in the area and hope they make it, i will send pics once they come out of their shock. the grasses were so hard to get out of the ground. i hope they make it.
