You can plant bleeding hearts, hibiscus, and columbines, all of which I've planted underneath our huge blue spruce trees.

Anything that loves acidic soils would thrive there. Blueberries, hydrangeas, holly, hostas, rhododendrons, azalea are just a few

If your tree was healthy when it came down, it's fine to use the needles as mulch. But it's actually only an old wives' tale that they acidify the soil. If the soil is acidic it was that way before you planted the spruce. Before you plant new things, it would be best to do a soil test.

How much sun do you have since the tree is cut now? Think about sun loving plants if that's your case! I use the needles as a mulch. Compost the rest! My next door neighbor has a 100 ft pine in her yard. : )

Sun loving plants- perennials would be great. Tell us more about the site and soil so we can give good recommendations.

Be careful what you plant because the soil will be acidic!
