Just a couple of hours ago I was wondering the same thing. I'm trying a small bowl of apple cider vinegar (about a cup) with a few drops of dishwashing liquid dropped in. The fruit flies are all around the bowl with several already at the bottom of it. I've washed all of my fruit and vegetables in a sink of water and vinegar and put them away either in Ziploc bags or covered in bowls. I've never had such an infestation like this.

Fruit Flies go ga ga over anything that is going bad/rotting food.... so, what I was told, was that you need dish washing liquid & water. I dunno if it will work though...I have never had a problem with fruit flies.... maybe it's because of the Venus Flytrap, the Pitcher Plant & the other one whose name I can never remember....hmmmm ; )

Fill a microwave-safe bowl with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Microwave the bowl so the mixture becomes even more aromatic. Leave the bowl out uncovered as fruit fly bait. The soap will reduce the surface tension, causing any fruit fly that lands on the surface to drown.
