I discovered this old set of vintage drawers in pretty poor condition in a charity shop near my house. I felt inspired to paint them in order to give them a new lease of life!

The dresser was quite badly damaged in places with scratches and general wear-and-tear. There were also places where it had been defaced with paint and tape by the previous owners. The varnish was in pretty good shape considering, but I decided that the best plan of action would be to sand the dresser down right back to the wood and start fresh...
With some good old-fashioned 'elbow grease' and sandpaper in hand, I sanded down the dresser, removing all of the old varnish and the majority of the the scratches, paint and signs of a previous owner. It still had some small areas of damage but overall it was much better than I anticipated! I also took the mirror off (to be re-attached later) so that I could reach all parts for sanding

I then began to paint a design onto the dresser, being mindful to cover the most damaged surfaces of the drawers but not completely cover the wood in paint, as I do love the natural patterns that wood has.

I wanted a simple colour scheme and used acrylic paints to paint a design onto the top and sides.

I penciled out some rough ideas before going in with the paint (which is always advisable, especially for beginners!), but enjoyed the freedom of seeing how things looked and changing my ideas as I went...

Please watch this short video above to see the full painting process!
Once the design was complete, I re-attached the mirror and coated all wooden parts of the dresser with a spray-on clear varnish to prevent any future damage to the dresser or the design.

This is SO creative! I wonder what the color name is for the blue on the top and feet? I've been looking for this very color and don't know what to even look for. I want to paint a kitchen island.

Just curious... Do you have any special training or a college degree in Art? Or are you a Self-Taught artist? (I'm a self-taught woodcarver, and i paint/design wood signs & carvings, but I can't paint nearly as good as you!)

I hope you continue to use your talents, because you will definitely make $$$ ..... That dresser is so beautiful!!!!
