Basically particle board cabinets with contact paper looking covering. Anyone have luck refinishing these somehow without replacing?

yes, I own a double wide. prime with Kilz primer then paint. I have done mine 3 different ways now and no problem. (Just to clarify, I did them the first time with crackle paint 1980's, I loved it but years later the realtor said to make them plain white to help sell the house, when the house didn't sell I decided to paint them again with barn red)

The process may be timely because of the particle board. You will need to thoroughly clean them first, then use a primer meant for particle board, allow to dry and proceed to paint. Because of moisture in a camper you will have to seal them .I would recommend speaking to a knowleable rep at your local paint store before attempting this.

I've had great luck with chalk paint with the wax finish. Beautiful with very subtle sheen when finished. Pick your colors.

I love the chalk paint too and have used it. I just painted my cabinets with Deco Art Satin Enamel and they came out wonderful and I think it will wear better than the chalk paint & wax. Pretty inexpensive too, it only took 3-8oz. jars @ $6.99 each (I used a coupon at Joann's too!) But over this material I'm not sure it would hold up (I grew up in a trailer so I know what you're dealing with!) Depending on how large the area, you might consider buying a roll of wood vainer and covering the frames and door fronts. It wouldn't be a terribly easy job but to save material you can cut strips to cover the base (cut horizontal pieces for the top & bottom and fit the side pieces in between). Then cover your door fronts and maybe buy some thin strips of a molding around the edges to cover the particle board - I would glue that with something like Liquid Nails because that board might chip easily. This is pretty much labor intensive and might not worth the time, effort & expense depending on your level of DYI. Good luck!

prime well with a light sanding between 2 coats of Kilz primer. The I would use Annie Sloan Chalk paint. There are piles of tutorials so show you how to do it. I did my kitchen and love it still after 3 years!

Me and my daughter repainted our kitchen 16 years ago and it's way past needing redoing. We sanded, primed with Kilz and used semi-gloss paint in a soft yellow with white trim. Soft blues on curtains and accessories and white on walls gave it a French country look. We did stencils on the walls and I loved it for years.

There is a product you can find at Lowes/Home Depot called Zinsser B-I-N Primer that is made for inexpensive laminated cabinets. I used it in an old mobile home years ago. Works great.

One more thing. After a few weeks- after the wax has had a good time to cure and harden properly- I took the doors off and then, I used a polyurethane that can go over a waxed finish- called PolyVine Matte Finish- It's awesomeness! I just wipe my cabinets down and the clean right up. no chemicals-- just warm water- maybe a little soap.
