Holly Hocks are actually a Biennial. The are totally different then a perennial. The seeds self sow and usually appear every other year in a different location.

@Janet Pizaro Correct! Save the seeds each year. In some climates they come back for a couple of years. Other climates you have to plant them each year. I save them and plant them each year here in Michigan.

I have planted Holly Hocks only once. They were doing very well and then their beautiful large leaves started breaking out in blisters. I consulted my local extension office only to told they had a fungus which eventually killed the whole plant(s). I don't know what part of the country you are; but disease maybe once reason. Or it could be the soil. Check with your local extension office.

@Kathleen L. Brantley Plants in the right place excel. Maybe they need food, water, sun, no sun, certain food or no food or some bug loves them more. I can't judge because I live in Florida. I do know one thing: If you do everything you read is helpful and your plants still want to die - find another plant to love.
