The story of how this desk was reborn! visit my website for more furniture tutorials! http:www.jamiejowilliams.com
I bought this desk for $20 ($20!) from a Facebook ad.
Supplies List!
I conditioned the top of the table with minwax wood conditioner
Stained with Minwax Polyshades in the color Espresso. Friendly reminder-always follow the instructions on your can!
I decided to go with Annie Sloan's Aubusson Blue Chalk Paint because it is absolutely brilliant looking! The pictures just don't give this color justice.
Sand with a fine grit sandpaper (220-320) in between coats of paint for a silky smooth surface.
I waxed with Annie Sloan Clear wax and once that had dried I reattached the hardware and we were finished!
Such a huge transformation! The bones were in great shape, it just needed a little TLC!

I have the same desk that was my dad's so it's a antique, does painting it take away the value of the desk?

What an improvement--1000 times better. This desk is certainly a show-stopper now! I've always been drawn to Aubusson Blue ever since I saw it used on a piece of furniture in combination with Miss Mustard Seed's white wax. Unfortunately, I just haven't been happy with the projects I've done in chalk paint.

@Shari I love that picture! I haven't tried out Miss Mustard Seed's products yet but I hope to in the future. I love the hardware shown in your photo. It compliments that piece so well! Do you also have a website?
