looks like tubarb -
Does your neighbor not know what they are? They do look deliberately planted. How wide are the leaves? I've grown that cultivar of Heuchera villosa and if they are as wide as they look in that photo that is not what you have. -
Looks like perhaps a melon or gourd... -
I love mystery plants. -
Lugalaria, a beautiful yellow bloom apears on 3 foot stalks in July. -
-
The leaves are about as big or bigger than a large pizza. and the spelling is really LIGALARIA.-

Looks like squash -
Took a few more pics I will upload them in a few. Im amazed at how many flowers & plants have the exact same leaves this is something she planted but like I said 2 summers ago?! Were in Ma. if that helps any & it probably was a bulb she planted. -
It is a castor bean plant. they usually come back every year but the berrys are poison. beautiful plant though. -
Naaaa.......Scratch that last thought; not a Castor Bean; Castor Bean has pointed leaves. -
Lets hope its not a Gunnera; Google it and look at how big that plant gets. HUGE! but very Pretty. Good Luck! -
Teresa F, where can I find a Gunnera Plant. This is a statement Plant nice focal point. -
Cooper, Gunnera should not be that hard to find at a good local nursery (Monrovia cultivates it). If not, there are several sources online. It will do best in a moist setting, and you need to make sure you have a LOT of room. -
Thanks Douglas, Understood. I do have lots of room (13 acres with small Pond) I think that this plant can make a huge statement while decreasing the number of plants needed to cover space and maintenance time. -
it is squash -
it looks like a vegetables, but what kind? -
looks like either pumpkin or watermelon, but I"d lean towards pumpkin..they can grow ANYWHERE..lol..and nothing kills them ^_^ -
Pumpkin and squash donet just come up every year on their own, If you planted bulbs, it must be something like the gunnera or in the Ligalaria family. It isn't rhubarb either, it would have red or pinkish stems and with the size the leaves are now, the stalk would be a lot thicker. -
most squash would have flowers at this size leaves because the flowers would lead to the fruit. If you have no flowers I doubt it is a squash. Kelly's picture of alumroot looks very similar to your pic. Keep us posted :-) -
Has anyone determined what this is yet? Still a mystery? -
It's not ligularia either. It does look like squash family, but they are annual. Has it flowered yet? -
It looks like Astilboides tabularis. If that's the case, I'd say it's going to get much too big for the space. -
Douglas Hunt, I never even knew this plant existed, but I just looked it up in the web by/with the name (Astilboides tabularis) you gave us, and it sure looks like it is that. Thanks again for coming through for us here Mr PLANT EXPERT!!! By the way I love the leaves of it. -
Heuchera villosa 'Autumn Bride' (Autumn Bride Alumroot) -
Maybe I am misunderstanding...if she planted it 2 years ago do you know how big it got?
