Staining a front porch to look like wood planks

Has anyone stained their front porch to resemble wood planks? Just wondering how difficult this is ... I saw photos of this and now would really like to do it to mine.

It looks like that porch was done by a professional but you could try to replicate the look. You'd probably want to first want to score the concrete to achieve the look of your planks. You would do this with a diamond tipped sawblade on a circular saw. You would first want to mark your lines length wise and across until you achieve the look you want for the planks. Set the depth of the saw so you don't cut too deeply into your concrete and follow your markings to get the look of wood planks. After that I would clean it up really really well because nothing will stick to concrete dust! You could stain your cut lines for the planks a little darker color then stain the majority a it lighter. I've stained concrete before by using a garden sprayer and was quite successful. I think you can choose the color you want for your base then achieve more of a grain with the darker color that you used on the cuts. I'm not sure if I'm making sense explaining the staining but you could continue to play with it until you get the color you want. I'm sure there are videos on you tube that could help- I depend on YouTube for all sorts of things & Im actually about to replace my washer's drain pump motor with the help of a YouTube video! Chicks Rule!!! LOL

@Mary Beth Carrier Your response totally makes sense. Thank you for getting so detailed. I was trying to avoid hiring a professional but certainly don't want to screw it up so I'd be better off hiring a professional! Good luck on the pump motor!

Mary is right, professional job. This look was done with a concrete stamp using color release on concrete. If concrete not cracked too badly,..can have a thinset layer of concrete poured over top ,stamped with wood grain concrete stamps and stained whatever color you want! (husband has done concrete for35 yrs) stamped concrete his speacialty.

@Gina Dang Gina, I wish your husband was closer! I'm having a hard time finding the right person with the knowledge and experience to do this. Like I mentioned to Mary Beth, I'll have to keep hunting for that right person ... I certainly don't want to screw it up! Thank you!

Your welcome. Just look in the phone book (or on craigs list,..no one uses phone books anymore! lol) Look for residential concrete company, estimates are always free.Even though we own our own company,my husband always tells potential client to get 3 written estimates from dif companies,...keep em honest! Good luck, keep posted on progress!
