Where do you buy felt?

Hi,
I'm an enthusiastic crafter and often sew with felt (and am nuts about making tutorials, but that's another story). I've been trying out various felt qualities and versions, but would like more... Where do YOU buy your felt? Do you go online at all or do you stick to your local store? Thanks!

I realise that things are probably different in the US, but I buy mine from fabric shops rather than craft shops. The advantage is that I can purchase by the yard, which makes it far more economical. There is generally a better selection as well.

@Thank You Valerie I've had the same experience so far regarding the benefits of selection. And quality is better in fabrics store too, here (might be different elsewhere in the world)!

I buy mine, by the yard, at JoAnn or Hobby Lobby Craft Stores. Can pick up pretty cuts at these stores too.

If you have a Walmart store around, they have 12 inch felt squares and I think you can buy it by the yard also.

Walmart. Michael's. Joanne's. Thrift stores. I make felt appliqued pillows but I'm searching for another "fabric" that has all the colors but does not pill. Maybe wool felt?

Don't go to Hobby Lobby mthey are not fair to their female employees. You can get felt in Walmart and Michael's and fabric stores and, yes on-line.

Me again. I was at Target today and they had a bundle of 54 felt squares, looked to be about 6x6 inches. All different colors about $12.

You're welcome! Do you have Target in Slovenia? You can probably order it online if you don't.
    • Damjana Damjana on May 31, 2016
@Maryesamuels No... I've been buying in the local store that has a really good felt quality (by the yard). Sometimes, I run into lower quality felts in other stores. It's really good to be able to see how it's like before purchasing, but your advice (and those from others) helps a lot to get a better picture on what's available where! :)

Hi Damjana. I wanted to let you know of a website I get a lot of my craft supplies from. It's createforless.com. I just looked at their website and they have nine plus pages of felt fabric. Bundles, sheets, all kinds of ready made shapes. I'm not sure if they ship internationally. But check the site out they have more stuff than you can imagine. ~^._.^~

Hobby Lobby craft stores also carry a heavier weight of the felt pieces. I believe the pieces were about 9" x 14". I used the heavier weight to make Ninja Turtle masks for my grandson's 5th birthday party and they came out great! Sturdier and not so flimsy.
