    Carole, while petunias are a staple of summer in cooler parts of the country, Florida summers are a different creature altogether. The combination of heat and humidity here usually does petunias in by sometime this month. Then it will be time to pull them out and replace them. To continue typical petunia colors you could consider pentas, which, in addition to being able to take the heat, will also bring butterflies to your garden.
