What is eating my butterfly bush??

Douglas Hunt on Jun 24, 2013Camilla, I assume that someone who planted a butterfly bush is interested in attracting butterflies and bees to her garden, so I would strongly recommend you not use Sevin. The active ingredient is Carbayl, which is considered to be moderately to very toxic and is a particular threat to honey bee populations. You can read more about it from Cornell University here: http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/carbaryl-dicrotophos/carbaryl-ext.html If you cannot see what is eating the foliage on you butterfly bush, start by giving it a good blast with the hose. If that doesn't stop the problem, move up to a commercially produced insecticidal soap, making sure to check the label to make sure it is approved for use on butterfly bush.Helpful Reply

Camilla on Jun 24, 2013Thank you Douglas! I had no idea. I am extremely allergic to bees but certainly do not wish to do them any harm!Helpful Reply
