Did You Know One of the Hummingbirds' Predators is the Praying Mantis?

A couple of years ago, I snapped this and other photos, thinking the subject matter was cute - it's not! The fact is that praying mantis will patiently wait, as in the case of this photo, for the opportunity to snatch & devour an unknowing hummingbird. No birds were harmed in this scenario, and I am now much more in the know. While praying mantis can be a beneficial insect against moths, mosquitoes, aphids & flies, be watchful of them around your hummingbird feeders!

Whew! How timely, thanks....I literally just purchased a praying mantis egg. I was hesitant because it releases 100-200 when hatched, but I figured they would disperse. I think I will stick with beneficial nematodes and lady bugs!

I could see how easy it would be. They strike fast. I just would never have guessed hummingbirds! I would have been mortified if I came across this article after having released them!
