I have an area of the kitchen that isn't used in a very kitchen-y fashion and wanted to make it look like a separate cabinet. But I wanted to make the countertop different too - any ideas?
I would reface the cabinets with either a painted finish or a glaze as you mentioned. The best alternate counter would be a nice butcherblock counter that will compliment the glazed look the best I think. The cabinets falling off is an easy fix just get some new 1/2 overlay hinges and install them on all the doors.
