Chalkboard Kitchen Makeover

We decided to update our 1970's kitchen by painting the exteriors and interiors of the cabinets white and then using chalkboard paint on the interior of each door. It made a HUGE improvement to the entire space. We also painted the walls of the room a warm beige, and painted the tile in the breakfast nook. We also painted the knifeblock and silverware organizer a french blue to add extra special detail to the room.

I love the chalkboard motif. Well done. Thanks. Nice to see a make over that uses your existing cabinets.

I am having a hard time viewing the painted tile. Was that an easy task? What type of paint did you use? Did you have to seal it so that the paint wouldn't chip? I love the idea however I am concerned about the longevity of it.

Very nice! You deserve to be proud of this creative well done kitchen. Years ago I painted my kids bedroom door with chalkboard paint so they had a permanent place to draw on.

Thanks everyone! To answer questions: the tile was painted with plain flat interior paint and then sealed with polyurethane. It's super sturdy and has held up very well. I did 3 coats of the poly and let it dry for 48 hours before using the counter.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering about the actual countertops, they are just granite tiles. Those were left alone.
