Don't be afraid of color - but light it correctly

A very vanilla room with 80's blue carpet, we transformed into a cozy nest. Replaced the omni directional bulbs with tighter spots & directed them to the walls. Added lamps with darker shades, to keep down glare. Floor is stock from Home Depot, but we cut off the corners of the vinyl tile, on the bias, and then added small white diamonds we cut from basic white tiles. Bordered the whole room with black tiles. We also took the couch & coffee table into the center of the room (not in pic) so the furniture wouldn't all be "under house arrest" (against the wall). Ideas to make a larger, sterile room inviting and warm. Just add the right music/movie & why go anywhere else for the evening?

    Well you sure took that room from ho-hum to warm & inviting!! I'm always amazed how changing key features, adding some of this 'n that, in just the right proportions and it becomes and entirely different space!! Well done.

    Oh, and welcome to Hometalk. I saw somewhere you said you were new - so just know that when you post pictures you'll get lots of questions ; ~ }

    We appreciate the welcome and we'll always try to help when possible with solutions. My wife & I love to re-purpose older items and show that you don't always have to spend a lot of money to turn a room around. Our company motto, especially being muralists, is "We help our clients see the BIG picture". It's our 29th anniversary today, so I better get off this computer and treat my girl to a nice day! J
