Creating DIY Hardware to Secure a Shelf

How do you secure a wooden shelf to metal? I created my own brackets out of metal roof flashing. The flashing is pliable, easy to cut and easy to screw through. This solution will save me a lot of money at the hardware store!
Metal flashing cut to size easily wraps around the metal.
Easy to nail or screw through.
I changed a spice rack with broken baskets into a new shelf... saved from the land fill.
