I have been wanting an outdoor garden bench for a little nook that just needs something. This bench is made from one 2x12 it's the perfect thing to fit the bill. I love when projects are super budget friendly.
I used the miter saw to cut the 2x12 into the required lengths. Then I traced a cute curvy pattern (printable) on each side of the two legs.
You can use a band saw, scroll saw or jig saw to cut out the legs. Sand the curves on the legs smooth.
Pre-drill a few holes in the top and bottom of the leg support boards. Use wood glue and screws to attach the supports to the legs. Attach each leg to the bench top with wood glue and screws. I found it easiest to center the boards, then clamp in place while I added the screws. Repeat on the bottom pieces and for the other leg.
I left the bench all-natural for a little while until I decided what color to stain it. What color will you make yours? I decided to stain my bench a fun blue color (Minwax Island Water) to add a little interest to my nook. Before you stain, it's always a good idea to use pre-wood conditioner to help the stain apply to the wood more evenly. Once the stain is dry, you'll want to use an outdoor polyurethane to protect the bench if it is out in the elements.
