Patio Cleaning-Has Anyone Used this Product by Quikrete

Hi everyone, I wanted to get your opinion on the Quikrete Wet Look High Gloss Sealer in the photo. I have a patio that I need to power wash and keep clean through the summer. Has anyone used this product on a patio and if so have you had success. I probably will do a test on one stone. Thanks. www.homerepairtutor.com

Thanks Hudson and Andrew for warning about the milky finish. I just might call Quikrete and ask them about this known issue. Their support line is pretty good, I've called them with other questions.

Gran Quartz does distribute throughout the US. Any product you go with will make the bricks slippery when wet, this product doesn't do too bad, I applied it to some natural slate in my shower's floor. It soaks into the stone vs "painting" the face.

Thanks Molly for your concern. We do have children and I wouldn't want them to get hurt just so patio stones could look nice.

Andrew, I appreciate you letting me know about Gran Quartz being distributed across the US. I'm exploring all our options. Today I'm simply powerwashing the patio, letting it dry for an extended period, then filling in with polymeric sand.

Isn't there any product that will seal with a "wet" look and not be slippery? We have a flagstone patio and I would love to stop the yearly scrubbing just to have it looking dusty and dull. We're not young so we don't want to kill ourselves on the slippery surface!

I've used Ager on stone for the "wet" look, it works great and is not like adding a gloss that is slippery. It will wear off in heavy traffic areas, but is super easy to apply. Wipe a thin layer on, let it absorb (if any is going to) then wipe off excess. A quart is expensive (I think it was about $85 shipped) but it goes a really long way! I've also used it on marble insets on a shower, and an older honed granite shelf and they turned out great!

Thanks Carol and Barb for your comments. I feel the same way as Carol about the slippery surface issue. Good to hear you've had great results with the Ager product, Barb. Sounds like it's a better product than some of the others available.

Yesterday my wife and I pressure washed the patio. It looks really good now. The next step is to fill in with sand. I may try to use Wet and Forget as a preventative to see if it works at eliminating the moss that grows in the shady areas. BTW, we have not used any sealer on it. Our neighbor tried to use the Quikrete product and it did not go well. She had a contractor come over and take off the sealer she put on because it did leave behind a milky residue. Ouch!
    • Newly pressure washed patio. Lots of work but worth it.

To get rid of moss between cracks in the patio, use white vinegar. It is non toxic but it will kill grass if splashed on it. And we just bought a bottle of Bayer moss eliminator which attached to the hose. Also, I use white vinegar to get rid of grass growing up between the asphalt and concrete at the street.

Thanks Jeanette for the tip about the vinegar. We also have grass that shoots up where not needed. One tip I remember viewing on This Old House was to take the unwanted grass from a sidewalk or driveway and plant it where you're missing grass in the yard. I may give that a shot :)

It did a wonderful job on a stamped concrete project we recently poured.

Thanks Lifetime for your feedback. We decided to hold off on this product for fear it might make the patio slippery. Do you know if this product makes surfaces slippery or not?

I've used it for several projects inside and out and have had great success with it. I've used it on cement floors, wood projects after I painted and on newly painted metal. Goes a long way too as it is thin.. also dries fast.

Thank you Becky for your comment and it's good to know you've had an awesome experience with it. Does it cause the surface to get slippery, this is my main concern as our patio is where our children play.

I have this on a cement floor in my kitchen actually. I've not had any problems with water or grease making it slippery. My bathroom floor is ceramic tile and I about fall down every time I step out of the shower...lol. The Quikrete doesn't get as glossy as say polyuethane.. at least in my experience with it. It will wear down after a bit but it's easy to recoat it as needed. My kitchen is on 2 years with the same coat ndd I have scatter rugs all over and have not slid around at all. ...»

You could test something with a little sand in it for grip to see how it will be on a patio stone just to give you more peace of mind.

Thank you so much Becky for your comment about the slipperiness of the product. I may give it a try mid summer and see how it looks. I'm pretty sure the prior owners used something like this on the patio. I know how you feel about getting out of the shower, I've had a few close calls too :)

There you have it, it works well indoors as she said, but outdoors it wears off fast.

Try Rejuvenate. It leaves a nice wet look, but is not slippery. I use it on the tile in my sunporch and kitchen. Both areas have held up great under a lot of traffic. I got it at Home Depot. Probably could get it at Lowes.
