@donnaallgaierlamberti@gmail.com as I stated in my comment above, when I list something for sale, I mark the box that blocks anyone from emailing me, directly or through the Craigslist email system. If someone is interested in the item I have for sale, they must call the phone number I have listed in the ad. So far, this has eliminated the scammers and reduced the number of non-serious buyers I get. Having the interested buyer phone me also lets me know whether I am dealing with a man or woman, and allows me to get a feel for them over the phone. I also find it much easier and quicker to answer questions, set an appointment time, and give directions over the phone rather than trying to do it in multiple emails back and forth. As far as deals and steals, that's pretty much what buying second hand is all about, whether it be Craigslist, garage sales, or thrift stores. People want a deal, including me! If I can't get a deal when I'm considering buying something used, I might as well buy new (with some kind of warranty or guarantee and the ability to return it if the item doesn't work in my home). I've sold some really nice things on Craigslist for dirt cheap but by my way of thinking, if I get something out of it that's better than nothing and nothing is what I would get if I donated the items.
