Hi @Carla Swanson , thank you so much! Yes, astrantia, that must be it! So glad to have a name to go with it. I am actually not sure how my roses do so well in my garden, they must get the minimum sun required because my yard is actually fairly shaded except for about 4 hours/day. I do fight black spot on them a lot though. We have lots of hydrangeas, hosta, and a few ferns as well and they are really carefree in this garden. Along with the moss. Ha! :)

Sharon-I love your post/blog!!! We just got back from two weeks in the Seattle/Whidbey/Olympic Pen area, and plan to retire to Whidbey next spring. (We have been scouting out the area for the last 4 years.) As a lifetime gardener on the plains of Ne. I'm looking forward to the "blooming things" I can grow in the PNW. LOVE the walks around Seattle and the front yards blooming like crazy!!! It's going to be a trade off for me leaving our koi pond and the berm where I've managed to keep a fairly nice variety of bloom. I'm told that Whidbey will probably not be safe for a little koi pond with all the birds of prey...........so it will be an adjustment but with no shortage of alternatives.
