Sweet William - Easy to Grow and Long Lasting Flowering Plant

I bought some dianthus plants last year from Lowe's home improvement. They advertised them as annuals, and I planted them for a show of color expecting to lose them in the fall. To my surprise, the plants flourished and came back again this year.
I also bought a Dianthus Barbados plant from The farmer's market and it was advertised as a perennial. It is similar to the smaller dianthus plants in some ways but the flower head on it is much larger and more showy. It also came back and is much much larger this year. The plant is also known as a sweet William. And sweet it is!
To grow Dianthus Barbados follow these tips:
The plant will grow to 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide, so consider this when spacing. Mine was a bit crowded this year and needed moving to a better spot. (story of my life in that front bed!)
The plant is a perennial in Zones 3 to 9
Dianthus will do fine in either Full or partial sunlight but likes even moisture.
Propagation is by seed, cuttings, or division, but seeds will not breed true.
If it is planted from seed after the last frost, it will flower in the second year. If it is planted in flats before the last frost and then transplanted it may flower in the first year.
