Maintaining log cabins inside and out.

Our log cabin continues to be attacked by carpenter ants and carpenter bees....then the woodpeckers come. How can I stop them. Also, the wood on the exterior of the house needs something!! There are spots where the wood looks like sap is weeping from it, the house just looks shabby!

Hi Michelle, My spouse and I, (now my EX) built our own Log Home and added 2 additions to it over the 25 yrs we were married. When we stained the wood, we added something in it to repel the carpenter ants. We also had to power wash the old stain off every 6 or so years, it got crappy looking. So much residue seems to stick to the logs. The seeping sap is common too.

Thanks, we've power washed before and it helped, but between the carpenter bees and carpenter ants, I feel we're losing the battle
