Reupholstering lawn chairs

Question

The weatherproof upholstering is wearing out on my lawn chairs.  Does anyone know how I can reupholster, cheaply?  If I were to purchase new fabric, it'd be more expensive than buying new chairs.  The framework on my chairs is still very good.

Linda you can use fabric waterproof shower curtains to recover your cushions. Lay the fabric out flat and center the cushion on a section of it. Proceed to 'wrap' the cushion like a gift and scure the seams on the underside of the cushion with waterproof colored / coordinating duct tape. It's a quick fix but will give you an updated look at a reasonable cost.

You could also use a painters tarp found at any hardware store or Walmart.  Google 'how to add color to painter's tarp'.  You can paint or dye them.

These chairs are slingback chairs and do not have cushions

If you can't afford Sunbrella fabric-the best outdoor fabric-I would go with painter's canvas. They will accept almost anything. I would also check out the clearance section of your local fabric store that carries Sunbrella. Sometimes you can get great deals!

Sling back replacements should be easy enough to duplicate. Get your fabric and use the existing piece as your pattern.  You could also try an online search for replacements. Without a photo it was hard to understand what style of chair you were referencing. Good luck!

Fabric stores have decorator canvas on sale at 50% off this time of yr. We redid our sling backs this way and it went quickly and for an affordable price.

Use canvas... Comes in many colors now... Heavier gauge is obviously best. Check the sales......

don't forget to spray with water repellent. i usually use the ones for tents.
