Doesn't anyone have a question about Landscape Lighting and all the advances in 12 volt LED lamps?
Just asking.....Gary
Below is a 3 Watt G4 Bi-pin lamp which offers the lumens of a 20 Watt halogen lamp., and a 1 Watt T5 Wedge LED lamp which offers the lumens of a 10 Watt halogen lamp.
Can you imagine a 150 Watt Transformer lighting 45 to 50 directional and area/path light fixtures. And home-run circuits up to 225 feet with no major voltage drop effecting the lumen output.
G4 Bi-pin 3 Watt LED
T5 Wedge 1 Watt LED

yes it does, thank you @LandlightS. Is there an actual savings on the electric bill using LED instead as well because the energy savings of the transformer? Now can you retrofit an old system and upgrade it to LED or do you have to completely take the old system out and install from scratch?

Donna...depending on the fixtures, yes you can retrofit or actually just replace the halogen lamps with LEDs. You can save on electrical energy on an existing system by replacing the transformer with a lower wattage out put. As I explained, instead of using a 300 Watt out put transformer, you could use a 100 Watt or even an 88 Watt transformer (Malibu from HD) and you will save over 50% of the energy required to power the transformer. On the line voltage side (120 volt)....if you replace a 75 Watt Halogen outdoor floodlight with a 12 Watt LED floodlight, you save 63 Watt per hour of use...let alone the number of lamp life hours. When you compare the cost of a 75 Watt halogen lamp....approx $7.50 with the cost of a 12 Watt LED lamp....approx cost $25.00 it is a Win, Win situation. Especially if you consider that you have to replace the halogen lamp 25 times to match the life of the LED>>>>>25 X 7.50 = $ 187.50 vs 1 LED lamp at $25.00 Again...sorry I'm so worddy..... Have a great weekend...GAry
