Catherine G. on Jun 28, 2013Coyote and fox are pretty rare in my area ... Raccoon is definitely more likely. Has anyone found any good deterrents for raccoons? Once my garden starts to bear fruit, I suspect they'll become more frequent visitors to my yard. No damage so far ...Helpful Reply

Alaina Eblen on Jun 28, 2013I am using shavings if Irish Spring for deer - maybe racoons have the same sense if smell. It's inexpensive enough try- of course if you see a racoon with a shower cap on I'd guess it's not a deterrentHelpful Reply

Monique Ross on Jun 28, 2013if you sprinkle some cayenne pepper around the plants in your garden they will get a good sniff of that and never come back.Helpful Reply

Wilma Fendrick on Jun 28, 2013Raccoon. I have one that goes in the same spot in my flower bed every night. Then he dug my sweet potato vine out of my wheel barrel planter. We are going to trap him and move him to a new home. I can put up with a little poo but start digging my plants and you gotta go. :)Helpful Reply

Jim Ginas on Jun 29, 2013Great POST! Yesterday while spraying weeds behind my fence line, I found a VERY SIMILAR "matter" on an old stump! had a similar thought... what in the world is THAT?? though we do have a family of raccoon that live in the woods that I see the big one sporadically back there. No I know! we do have fox, but last 2 years is much more rare to see them.Helpful Reply

Clarisse Gibson on Jun 29, 2013If you find a way to deter them, please share. They are territorial and we have a family that just loves my front yard trees. No damages to date, but we have dogs out back where the garden is so that's probably what is keeping our garden safe. I worry about them fighting my dogs though and diseases they might spread? Too bad they are so cute because I'm sure they are really nasty. We live in the city and they thrive here on garbage etc. Clever critters actually :)Helpful Reply

Jenny Campbell on Jun 30, 2013Try mothballs. I had a family of raccoons that would come up on my deck and try to get into the bird seed. So I took a box of mothballs and scattered them all over. Yes it did smell for a while, but that did the trick.Helpful Reply
