Easy diy headboard using garden trellises.

I bought 3 trellises to fit the width of my bed and simply wired them together using picture hanger wire. I covered the wire with clear tape to protect the walls from scratches. It is currently just propped up behind the bed, but I may hang it on the wall at some point. #2012

Speaking of turing cold, the temp here in North Alabama is predicted to be in the 40's tonight, and 70's with abundant sunshine tomorrow! That' what I call perfect weather. Having said that, I am thinking of making curtains for our screened porch using drop cloths. My husband & I have different views on this (anyone relate:)?)Found online site & tutorials.....sounds simple and is very econmical compared to outdoor fabric. I think that it would extend the use of our porch as the weather ...»
gets colder. Have any of you done this? Please give me your input, and honest opinions. And, Sheila, I want to put a cot out there using your idea of garden trellises as headboard! Thanks, everyone. Lookin forward to hearing your opinions and ideas!

@Sharron...1000 count? holy cow! Has Martha Stewart counted the threads to be sure? has anyone? How do we know this is true? hahaha

Seriously tho , wouldnt that make them very soft?

It's hard to explain Donna, but it makes them soft and soothing against your skin but thick and "crisp" feeling when you lay down against them...Y'all I think we should move the sheet conversation to our page...

Pat I haven't personally used the drop cloths but I am thinking about it. Sheila and I just had a conversation about using DC's - it might have been on my burlap runner site. I know others on HT have used DC's as well. You might goup to "search posts" at the top left and see what you can find. If I'm not mistaken, I think everyone said you should wash it first because of shrinkage. Why does you husband object? Because he somehow can't get a mental image and he thinks it'll look tacky? ...»
You can imbellish it w/trim or cording, decorative buttons, use rubber stamps & craft paint and make a design - possibilities are endless!!

So spill it on the online site & tutorial - ok???

Pat, I used drop cloths for our bedroom curtains. You definitely need to wash first- they shrink a lot! I plan on eventually either stenciling or adding some sort of ruffle or trim to mine, just haven't decided yet. Here is the link to my tips for using drop cloths:

I like those alot Sheila!! I think you're like me sometimes - can't leave well enough alone! I'm still fiddling around w/my burlap valance for my kitchen window. I thought I was done, had put it up, fussed & mussed and then decided I need a mustard color stripe. I have a "farm" sign above my window w/the faded barn red color, a little black and a mustard stripe! So . . . . today I took them back down AGAIN, taped off for the next color of stripe and now I'm waiting for the paint to ...»
dry so I can heat set the paint! I am done - I'm NOT adding one more bloomin thing - I swear!!

Thanks, Paula and Sharron W . I got the trellises at Hobby Lobby this past spring. Not sure if they carry them year round.

Thanks, Anne ! I feel a little silly about it- they're just propped up against the wall right now. I know I need to attach them to the wall or the bed frame somehow, but just haven't done it yet.

SheilaG, Plum Doodles If you wire them together with Alum wire, (sold for electric dog fences) and then paint if white it won't show....and cup hooks at the top would hold it up on the wall... The alum wire is easy to manipulate by hand but not so soft that it will bend apart...Hubby used it to repair a piece of our iron window grate this summer...I was kind of irritated since he HAS welders available and I thought it looked ...»
tacky...but once painted, you can't even see it when you're looking for it...LOL

Where would I find the wire, Sharron W ? I'm thinking I need more than cup hooks because I don't want it to rattle against the wall every time someone rolls over in bed! I thought about those clips used for wire shelving, but they are too small in diameter.

SheilaG, Plum Doodles Home Depot sells that wire, and if you use rolled foam (the kind they sell to put around your door facing) on the back it sould keep it from rattling against the wall...if that only comes in black, then they make a double sided foam tape that comes in white, you'd just need to cut some felt and put on the wall side so it didn't stick to the wall, sort of "make your own bumpers" sort of deal...LOL. I see ...»
you have a rail at about the height of the mattress, you may want to put cup hooks there as well and just pull the bed out an inch so you don't rattle up against it... they sell the double sticky tape at the Hardware store too.... They also sell clear "bump its" which are made to stick on the bottom of pots to protect your funiture from scratches...so you may just prefer those...they come in a variety of sizes and shapes...

Thanks, Anne D - Hubby & I are actually working on attaching it to the wall- it's currently just propped up behind the bed, kinda rattles when someone rolls over. Only 7 months later... :)
